JROTC Panther Battalion
Americus Sumter High Panther Battalion
Welcome to the Panther Battalion. Our mission is to "motivate young people to become better citizens." Our cadets enjoy a wide variety of extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, Color Guard, Raider Team, and Rifle Team. They get to experience leadership challenges as they move through the various positions associated with the cadet led battalion organization which is composed of 251 cadets. They receive training in military drill, leadership, finance, first aid, health fitness, positive study skills, conflict resolution, communication, map reading, government, military service, and service learning. Cadets may participate for up to four years in the program, however they are only required to complete three years to be given credit for completing a career pathway for graduation. Summers can be active for the cadets willing to step to the challenge also as we take cadets every year to JROTC Cadet Leadership Camp (JCLC) where they get to work with cadets from all over Southwest Georgia in a fun filled week of adventure at Georgia Militay College in Milledgeville, Georgia. While participating in JCLC the cadets will canoe, rappel down the 90 foot rappel towers, and ride the zipline (slide for life). They will also get a chance to participate in team building activities such as the Leader Reaction Course where students are challenged to come up with innovative ways to get their team and equipment across seemingly impossible obstacles. Staff members are invited to come in and work in their new positions so that they can hit the ground running when the new school year begins. The Panther Cadet Corps is up to the challenge, are you? Come on out and give it a try!
