Architectural and Interior Design Page
Students are introduced to the elements and principles of design as they relate to interior decorating. Emphasis is placed on color theory, furniture selection and arrangement, floor planning, selecting wall treatments, types of flooring, window covering and lighting. Historical styles and current trends in decorating will be studied. Computer-related technology is used to reinforce classroom activities.
Students will gain an understanding of the elements and principles of design and utilize them to create elaborate living spaces. They will learn to analyze a client’s needs and select appropriate colors, fabrics, furnishings, lighting and furniture. Students will develop skills in 2D architectural drafting and space planning as they prepare sample rooms and floor plans. Students will have exposure to various career opportunities in Interior Design.
This class is designed to help the student learn to make wise housing choices, to learn about art principles and their application to decorating choices, study floor plans, room and furniture arrangement and selection, study housing styles, as well as, consumer rights and responsibilities. A major final project of the student’s choice will include floor plans and composite of materials and color choices, selection and arrangement of furnishings, accompanied by a detailed report of cost and reasons for the choices.

Graphic Design

Course Description: Students will learn and apply the fundamentals of the software application (Publisher), web design, image editing, drawing and graphic animation. Students will create advertising and marketing projects coordinating technical skills with organization, management, communication, ethics and teamwork. (half year 1 Credit)

17-18 Publication and Graphic Design Art III

Introduces graphic design as seen in posters, advertisements, logos, illustrations, signs, and package or product designs. Covers selected graphic design elements, vocabulary, and the media, tools, equipment, techniques, processes, and styles used for graphics. Investigates the historical development of graphic design and its function in contemporary society. Stresses using the computer as a major design tool. Explores career opportunities. 

In the intro to their documentary The Universal Arts of Graphic Design, PBS Digital Studios describes graphic design: “Though often overlooked, Graphic Design surrounds us: it is the signs we read, the products we buy, and the rooms we inhabit. Graphic designers find beauty within limitations, working towards the ultimate goal of visually communicating a message. Utilizing a language of type and imagery, graphic designers try to make every aspect of our lives defined and beautiful.”
