Americus-Sumter High student Ka’Liyah Morgan attended the Girls Who Rule The World Mentoring Weekend at Camp Grace in Roberta September 17-18 where she met many notable celebrities and business leaders from around the country.

The event hosted girls from around the United States who came together to bond and to share their dreams, success stories, and future plans. The event is hosted annually by Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie Bridges-Woods. Additionally, various universities attended, including representatives from Stanford. Ka’Liyah met many notable individuals including Mrs. Bridges-Woods,  the current Miss USA, fifteen CEO's from around the nation, plus a producer from Tyler Perry’s studio in Atlanta.

For two days Ka’Liyah met and bonded with other participants from high schools around the country. Each morning the girls rose at 5 a.m. to participate in PT led by U.S. Army soldiers, followed by various outdoor activities including archery, rock climbing, zip-lines, and horseback riding. "In addition to all the physical activity, there were numerous workshops," Ka’Liyah stated.

Ka’Liyah enjoyed meeting the other girls. She was particularly inspired by her roommate, a ninth grader, who has already published two books. Another girl she met hosts an inspirational reading club for underprivileged youth, and yet another is in the process of creating a public safety App. Each of the participants has a project in development, sometimes multiple projects. Ka’Liyah is starting her own nonprofit corporation under the guidance from her mentor, a CEO at Coca-Cola. Ka’Liyah said, “I am learning a lot about non-profits from my mentor.”

The program is ongoing, with more events forthcoming. Ka’Liyah shared that she will definitely attend at least two more mentoring sessions during the 2016-17 school year.

She said, “I am very excited to be involved. I am learning a lot from all of these great people.”
