ASHS Band Wins First Place

On April 1, 2017, the Sumter County Middle School and Americus-Sumter High School Bands performed together at the "Mentoring Madness Weekend Ultimate Band Challenge" at the Albany Civic Center in Albany. A total of four high school bands and two college bands competed in the event. Competing against three high school and two college bands, the Sumter County band won first place with a cash award of $7500. Schools competing in the event were: Northeast High School from Macon, Albany High School, Terrell County Middle and High Schools, Sumter County Middle and High Schools, Albany State University, and Savannah State University.

 
Some Sumter students also participated in college band scholarship auditions and received several offers.
